Hyllyssä privacy policy

Last updated: 19 September 2026

Hyllyssä is an independent library catalogue companion. It is not an official library service.

What the app does

Hyllyssä searches public catalogue data from Finna and library information from Kirjastot.fi. It stores your reading list and library choices on your device.

Information sent from the app

When you search, the search terms are sent to the selected public Finna catalogue endpoint. The service may also receive your IP address as part of normal internet communication.

When you explicitly request nearby libraries, Hyllyssä sends the approximate location supplied by Android to Kirjastot.fi to find nearby branches. Location is optional; you can search by municipality instead.

Barcode images are processed on the device. Images are not saved or sent anywhere.

Information the app does not collect

Hyllyssä does not collect library-card numbers, PINs, passwords, payment details, health information, advertising identifiers, analytics, or user accounts. Sign-in and reservations happen in your browser on the library's official website; Hyllyssä does not know whether a reservation succeeded.

Local storage and deletion

Your reading list and library choices remain on this device and are not backed up to our cloud. You can delete the local data from the app's settings. Uninstalling the app also deletes its local data.

Third-party services

Catalogue requests use public Finna services and library requests use public Kirjastot.fi services. Their own privacy policies and terms apply to requests they receive. Official library pages opened for login or reservations are governed by the relevant library's privacy policy.
